My husband, 34 yr old son and I recently took a week tour of Cameroon with Discover Cameroon Tours. ! We had a wonderful trip and were thoroughly delighted with our guide, Nicholas, and driver, Desmond. We would love to have them as a team again if we return for a tour of the eastern part of the country. They were very good company besides being extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their country. We loved the music that Desmond played in the car----it added to the atmosphere.
My husband and I are both in our 60s. We found all of the accommodations to be comfortable and clean. If travelers are looking for American-style hotels, they will not find them here, but rest assured that we felt safe and well-rested the entire time. The restaurant meals were simple and relatively unvaried for a country with such abundance of food, but we supplemented our diet with items bought along the way. And the beer was surprising good, not to mention very refreshing, in the hot climate. The country of Cameroon is so diverse culturally. There was never a dull moment since every day brought new surprises. The beaches were some of the most beautiful I have seen and the ocean water warm and inviting. I would recommend this trip to anyone with an adventurous spirit, and open mind and an open heart. And I would highly recommend trying to get the guide and driver mentioned above. Mount Cameroon Race Of Hope
An international sporting event up to the summit of Mount Cameroon, 4 100m above sea level, it is the second highest mountain in Africa.
Ngondo Cultural Festival
An annual event when the Duala people perform cultural and traditional rytes. The main focus been the retrieval of the sacred pot from the sea.
Bamoun Cultural Festival (Ngouon)
This event brings together the Bamoun people, it is organized once every two years. The date can not be known in advance. However it is organized in December of the even years, e.g, December 2012, December 2014, December 2016, etc.
